A Faithful Promise

Recently my wife and I celebrated a wedding anniversary.  As a part of our celebration, we visited our home town of Tyler, Texas.  During our time of remembrance in Tyler, we drove by several places which marked important times in our lives together.  We went by the first place that we lived together, a garage apartment on Lindsey Lane.  Such fond memories of our time there.  We wondered about how the little apartment looked inside.  We kidded about stopping and asking the current residents if we might have a glance in for old times sake.  We agreed that was probably not he best idea at 8:30 in the evening.  Then we went by our second apartment, a duplex a couple of blocks from Bergfeld Park that was a considerable step up from the garage apartment. We had so many fond memories from the short time we lived there.  As we drove around the city square, we remembered old friends and wondered where life had taken them.  What wonderful memories we have from those years of our life together! We also couldn’t help but consider and verbalize about how God had blessed us so richly.  We both remarked how God had taken such good care of us and our little family.  Life takes all of us so through many circumstances, all of which are not pleasant.  We couldn’t help but reflect on God’s promise to Jacob,  spoken through his prophet, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:2.  Most of you have fond memories of your life journey as well.  You would probably also say, “God has been so good to me.”  On the other hand, perhaps your life circumstances are currently difficult.  May I encourage you? Muster what little faith you have and trust Him.  For those who love Him, He says, “No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5.  God is going to take care of you!  If you trust Him, you will be able to look back on your life’s journey and give Him praise!  As we finished our little trip down memory lane, we reminded each other that God is as gracious and loving now as He was then. He is faithful to His promises.

“The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” Psalm 121:7-8 NIV.

Thank You, faithful God,

Pastor David
